Experiment: A clip of an adult hitting a toy and leaving children in a room with the same toy. The children imitated the adult. He also made children watch a video of an adult behaving appropriately with a doll and the children replicated the same behaviour.
Moral Panic Theory
An issue could be reported and it creates a panic in society.







Audience are panicked and annoyed by it.

Cultivation Theory
The media injects us but also cultivates particular beliefs and attitudes over time.

Key Terms

Media:

Fordism: the use in manufacturing industry of the methods pioneered by Henry Ford, typified by large-scale mechanized mass production.

Vertical Integration: Owning everything from the making or the consumption of the productthe combination in one firm of two or more stages of production normally operated by separate firms.

Package Production: The production process refers to the stages (phases) required to complete a media product, from the idea to the final master copy. The process can apply to any type of media production including film, video, television and audio recording. ...Production: The actual shooting/recording.

Production Companies: production company or a production house provides the physical basis for works in the realms of the performing arts, new media art, film, television, radio, and video. 

Distribution Studios: Big 6

Blockbuster: An increasing trend in hollywood is for the studios to concentration on a few massive "blockbusters" or "tentpole" releases, rather than release lots and lots of films- these films have large production budgets and even marketing budgets.

Brand partnerships are established to help with promotion.

They are released globally and will often gross more outside of the US than they do within.

Genre stages: Pastiche and Parody
Pastiche- a "loving", respectful homage to previous conventions. 
Tarantino's films are often viewed as pastiches of multiple genres. 
Parody- A humorous subversion of genre expectations. Audiences enjoy seeing conventions subverted.

Lighting In horror films the lighting effects the tension, suspense and reaction from the audience. As if the lighting is too bright it will cause no suspense for the audience, as the darker the scene is the more tension it creates for the audience.

Genre:
1st stage: the primitive stage, the formative stage in which the genres characteristics are first established.

2nd stage: the classical, the genre at its peak with generic qualities refined.

3rd stage: the revisionist stage, which scrutinizes and reavulates, often in a critical way, the conventions that typify the genre.

4th stage: the paradic, in which the genre is satirized in a consciously self-reflexive, tongue-in-cheek manner.
